First ever home win for India

India secured their first ever win on home soil, 48-12 against Malaysia in Rugby World Cup qualifying. The win came on the back of a dominant display by the forwards and an efficient and effective back line.

Following a gallant performance against Kazakhstan last week, the Indian team this time found themselves mobbed by the media at the final whistle. India stormed to a 24-0 half time lead but Malaysia had a stronger second half and finished with two tries of their own. Standout players were the Indian fly half Emil Vartazakian, who directed play well and kicked superbly. Blindside flanker Timothy Wilkes was tireless around the field, while for the visitors half back Mohd Abin Adnan was impressive behind a forward pack going backwards. The past week has seen unprecedented coverage for rugby in India, boosted further by the attendance of the President of the Indian Olympic Committee as guest of honour.  Elsewhere in Asia, Singapore emerged convincing 47-27 winners over Thailand at the Yio Chu Kang Stadium in Singapore. In Africa Madagascar twice came from behind to hold Kenya 24-24 in the first match pool B in Round 1b, which also features Uganda. The match was played out in good spirits at the East Africa ground in Nairobi.  In the Caribbean, the round 1a of Americas qualifying saw Cayman beat Bermuda 12-6 and Jamaica beat the Bahamas 5-3. However, with Bahamas, having won their two opening matches they win the Northern Caribbean Qualifying event in Nassau.
