Background

In April 2003, International Rugby Board members gave their backing to the bid presented by French Rugby Federation (FFR) President Bernard Lapasset for France to host the sixth Rugby World Cup. The successful bid was based on the 48 RWC matches being staged in twelve locations, 10 towns and cities in France plus Cardiff and Edinburgh.

2007 RWC Organising Committee

A public interest group (GIP) associated with the 2007 RWC was set up comprising representatives of the FFR, the French Olympic Committee (CNOSF) and officials of host cities. The FFR is the majority stakeholder and Bernard Lapasset chairs the body. GIP revenues come from ticketing and public funding. Government auditors overlook the finances. Eventual profits will be used by the FFR to develop rugby.
Objectives

To make the event a huge, popular festival, the Organising Committee will oversee planning, budget management, ticket sales and relations with host cities welcoming the world’s rugby fans.
